Transportation sector leaders launch low-carbon research driven alliance to inform policy, educate consumers

OCTOBER 21, 2021, OTTAWA – Working toward a low-carbon future, leaders from across the transportation market – from electric and hydrogen, to petroleum and renewables, to government and business decision makers – have come together to launch the Canadian Transportation Alliance (CTA).

The CTA is a non-advocacy, non-partisan, not-for-profit organization that aims to deliver objective, fact-based, third-party research to help educate government bodies, consumers, and business stakeholders on a variety of issues affecting the Canadian transportation market.

“Government policy has a momentous stake in determining how Canada’s transportation market evolves,” said Andrea Kent, Vice President Industry and Government Affairs, Greenfield. “The future sustainability of Canada’s transportation industry requires policymakers to evaluate diverse pathways to drive down emissions while ensuring Canada remains competitive as the global market increasingly works towards the same goal – net zero by 2050. It’s a complex market, and reliable perspectives from the sector will be a great asset in accelerating common goals and success.”

The concept for the CTA was formed in partnership with The Fuels Institute, a US based, not-for-profit research organization who have proven success in creating a non-advocacy-based model, where research projects in the transportation space are performed impartially and independently.

“The Alliance brings together players from all perspectives of the Canadian transportation sector to drive research that informs low-carbon policies and educates consumers on the diverse mix of low-emissions options available to them,” said John Eichberger, Executive Director of the Fuels Institute, and Interim Executive Director of the CTA.

“Our primary goal is to educate. We’re looking to compile independent data and to inform pragmatic policy approaches that help ensure long-term, enviro-economic prosperity for domestic transportation sectors, while advancing opportunities for growth in environmentally sustainable resources sectors that kindle long-term job creation here in Canada,” said Francis Bradley, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Electricity Association.

The CTA is working towards publication of its first white paper report on the Canadian EV Regulatory landscape, expected to be released in the coming months.

In the spirit of collaboration and innovation, the Alliance continues its recruitment efforts with the goal of bringing a diverse contingent of transportation market voices together to ensure its work – from conception to publication – is fair, unbiased, and consensus based.
