Take the Bite Out of the Bugs

Warmer weather means the bugs are back and putting the bite on your four-legged friends. Mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks cause issues not just for pets, but humans too. Tick season is considered to be from April to October, however, ticks can be active in temperatures as low as 4 degrees Celsius and can carry diseases that can make people and pets sick. It is important to think of every season as tick season.

Ticks are small parasites that attach themselves to a host, human or animal, and bury their head deeply under the skin. One of the greatest risks associated with ticks is contracting Lyme disease, which if left untreated, can cause serious, long-term complications and disability. The most common species of tick in Alberta known to carry the bacteria which causes Lyme disease is the blacklegged or deer tick.
