Farmers who open business accounts may now qualify for Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA)

The Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, is encouraging farmers and food businesses who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic to take advantage of terms offered by CEBA loans.

CEBA is an interest-free $40,000 operating loan. If applicants repay 75 percent of the total amount ($30,000) by December 31, 2022, the remaining 25 percent ($10,000) is eligible for a loan forgiveness benefit, but the $10,000 is taxable for the year it’s received. The extended deadline to apply for CEBA is December 31, 2020.
